COURSE SYLLABUS AND CALSSROOM GUIDELINES

Course: Algebra 2AB
A. KEY CONCEPT OF COURSE:
Algebra is branch of mathematics that uses letters and symbols. Algebra 2A is a review of Algebra 1. Algebra 2B introduces topics such as exponential and log functions, sequences and series, triangle trigonometry, vectors, and other topics. These concepts, as well as others, are defined in the California State Standards.
B. GENERAL PLAN FOR COURSE:
Daily objectives, standards, and homework are always posted on the White Board Configuration in the classroom. The daily lessons follow this structure: a review problem ( known as the do now ), instruction on a new lesson, and then guided practice.
C. COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Students are to complete all classwork and homework assignments. The purpose of classwork is for students to practice the new material from the lesson, and it is not collected. Homework is checked every day, and students are to show all their work in a neat and organized way, and all classwork/homework is to be completed in pencil. Students need the following supplies: paper, pencil, graphing calculator, and their book. Students are expected to ask questions during the lesson, and to work cooperatively and independently at the appropriate times.

F. SAFETY STANDARDS: None
G. ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Students are expected to attend class daily, and to be in their seats when the bell rings. I will call home if a student has five absences and/or tardies. If the studnet continues to be absent and/or tardy, the student will be referred to his/her grade counselor. Any classwork/homework assignments that are missed because of an excused absence may be turned in within one day. Students will still receive full credit. Any quiz that is missed because of an excused absence must be taken the day the student returns.
H. BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS:
Discipline is imperative to learning. The purpose of mu discipline strategy is for my students to be held accountable and responsible for their behavior, and for my students to see and believe in their potential. I expect students to respect me and each other. If a student disrespects me in front of the class, the student will be expected to apologize to me in front of the class. Students are expected to do their own work. This includes homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. If a student is caught cheating, the student will receive a zero on the assignment, and i will call home, and the student will be referred to his/her grade counselor.
I. ASSESSMENTS:
Students will be given homework everynight, and this will be collected each day. students will be given points for each assignment based upon how many problems the student completed. A quiz or test is usually given at least once every two weeks. Homework makes up 20 percent of the grade. Quizzes/tests make up 60 percent of the grade, and the final exam makes up 20 percent of the grade.
J. GRADING RUBRIC:
Students earn their grades by receiving ponts. Students may earn points through completing homework, quizzes/tests, and through the final exam. Below is my grading scale.
90-100% of total points - A
80-89% of total points - B
70-79% of total points - C
65-69% of total points - D
64% of total points or below - F
